PROMYS Europe, summer immersion in mathematics at Oxford University for pre-university students

PROMYS Europe is an intensive six-week summer immersion in mathematics at Oxford University for pre-university students in Europe.
PROMYS`s partners in creating PROMYS Europe are the University of Oxford`s Mathematical Institute, the Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI), and Wadham College, University of Oxford.
We are excited to be extending to Europe the methods of rigorous discovery-based mathematics practiced at PROMYS for the past 26 years.

Thanks to the support of CMI and Wadham College, there is full financial aid for any student for whom the sponsor-subsidized cost of £750 would be a burden.

1st April application deadline for PROMYS Europe is fast approaching.

The application is here on the PROMYS Europe site (http://www.promys-europe.org).

PROMYS Europe:

Six-week summer immersion in mathematics closely modelled on PROMYS, its 26-year-old parent programme at Boston University.

Partners: Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford; Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI); Wadham College, University of Oxford; and PROMYS, Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists.

Eligible to apply: European secondary school students age 16 and up

Location: Wadham College, Oxford University

Dates: July 11 - August 22, 2015

Application and application problem set at http://www.PROMYS-Europe.org

Application deadline: April 1, 2015

Cost to families: £750 (Cost is heavily subsidized by sponsors.)
Financial Aid: Full and partial need-based financial aid is available
Sponsors: Clay Mathematics Institute (CMI); Wadham College, Oxford University; and private donors

PROMYS Europe community: 12 first-year students, 4 returning students, 4 undergraduate counsellors, research mentors, faculty, and visiting mathematicians. Highly supportive, collaborative, and  stimulating environment.

Mathematical focus: First-year students focus primarily on a series of very challenging problem sets and exploration labs in Number Theory. An advanced seminar, research projects, and numerous mini-courses and guest lectures will be on a wide range of topics.

Primary goals: Development of mathematical habits of mind that support independence and creativity in facing unfamiliar mathematical challenges. Asking good questions. Precision of thought. Depth of understanding. Exceptional features: Students uncover mathematical truths for themselves. Intensity and six week duration.
